Welcome to the Bretforton Garden Club Website

On Sunday 2nd June Bretforton Garden Club are holding their annual Open Gardens event in the historic village between 11am – 5pm.

A wide range of village gardens will be opening from mature cottage gardens to contemporary ones in the process of development with stunning planting schemes, wild life ponds, raised vegetable beds and painted arbours being among their many features. Bretforton Village School will also be opening their gardens and visitors will be able to visit the recently created village allotments as well as the stunning 5acre garden at Bretforton Manor. The Manor dates back to 1605 and has formal and informal areas with all year-round interest and colour. Within the grounds are also listed buildings and structures including a dovecote, a cider press barn and a traditional walled garden.

Visitors can take part in a quiz as they wander around the village and view the scarecrows in the village competition – this year’s theme is “Scarecrows at Work”.

Refreshments – sandwiches, delicious homemade cakes and other refreshments will be on sale in the grounds of Bretforton Manor along with a plant stall and a Tombola. Sit down and enjoy your refreshments as you are entertained by the Bretforton Choir.

A share of the proceeds from this event will go to the two charities nominated by the club members for 2019 – Evesham & District Mental Health Support Services and St Richard’s Hospice.

Bretforton is just under 5 miles east of Evesham on the B4035. Tickets for the event can be purchased from The Manor & The Ark Shop which are both on Main Street or from 10 Gras Close WR11 7JP or MJPlants on Back Lane WR11 7JB. Adults £5 & children go free.

A small car park will be available at MJPlants and a Hedgehog Bus will run from the car park to 2 locations in the village.

PLEASE NOTE: No dogs are allowed in the gardens & some gardens may be difficult for wheelchair users to access due to narrow paths, steps or gravel driveways.

Bretforton Garden Club is a thriving and friendly club with over 100 members, not only from Bretforton but also the surrounding villages. We aim to appeal to anyone who has an interest in gardening or horticulture -  from absolute beginners to more experienced gardeners. Membership is £10 a year.

Our meetings are usually held on the first Thursday in the month at the Bretforton Memorial Hall WR11 7JH starting at 7.30pm, when we arrange speakers on a variety of gardening related subjects such as growing and using herbs; vegetable growing in a small garden; pruning; growing dahlias and plants for awkward corners. We have recently introduced a Plant, Seed and Skill Swop which is proving popular. During the meetings we hold a raffle and serve tea/coffee and biscuits.

Visits to local gardens and specialist nurseries are arranged, particularly during the summer months, as well as day coach trips to gardens further afield. We also welcome member’s suggestions for speakers and visits. Our monthly newsletter and website keeps members well informed.

In the summer, to coincide with the Asparagus Auction which raises money for Bretforton Church, we organise an Open Gardens Event when about 12 local gardens are open to the public and villagers take part in a Scarecrow competition. Refreshments are available as well as a plant stall and tombola. Funds from this event are donated to local charities chosen by club members.

We look forward to welcoming new members.
